When you need medical treatment, you trust healthcare professionals (doctors, nurses, etc.) to correctly diagnose you and provide you with the proper treatment. Most do a great job treating their patients. However, when a healthcare professional makes a mistake, it can have lifelong consequences for you or your loved one.
When a serious medical error occurs, it is considered medical malpractice. Medical malpractice is the failure of healthcare professionals to meet the proper standards of care. The standard of care is what healthcare professionals should do, at a minimum, to provide proper patient care.
